Since some unexpected costs cut into our travel budget, we went looking for free campsites. In the past, we haven’t had much luck with these. Either there are millions of flies and mozzies, or there’s too much wind, or it’s too hard to get the tent pegs in, or all of the above…
However, it seems our luck has finally turned! We found an awesome free campground in Merbein: a suburb of Mildura. This place has it all: prime location right on the Murray River, firepits, soft ground for pegs, hardly any wind, a toilet nearby, beautiful sunsets, and even free showers and BBQ places in town! In short: everything you need in a caravan park, for an infinitely lower price!
